Finnish Online Flea Market Goes Europe-wide
02-October-2017

Finland-based peer-to-peer online flea market Netflea.com has expanded in Europe by launching its website in three new language versions: Polish, Dutch and German.

By translating the site to the customer’s mother tongue Netflea is anticipating rapid growth. The new versions went live in recent weeks but are already showing promising results.

“We expect to double the amount of customers by Christmas and quadruple them by summer 2018,” says the company’s CEO Ossi Salo. “If we can get one purchase then we can get millions.”

Netflea.com, known as Vähänkäytetty.fi in Finland, opened its business to the European market earlier this year by launching the English site. The marketing results showed a high interest to register but the language and – in Poland’s case – the currency were sticking points.

Today, the online store operates in 13 countries and the entire site, including products, marketing efforts and customer service, is available in five different languages. All of the purchases can be made in the country’s own currency.

Recently, Netflea also landed almost one million euros in funding that was collected from several private investors as well as Tekes. The capital boost will be used to increase the marketing in the new markets to reach out to both customers and sellers.

“We need businesses that have the courage to do things differently and that rapidly takes the international leap,” says Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Kai Mykkänen. “Vähänkäytetty.fi has showed this kind of courage by expanding its business in Europe this year.”
